Guide Dog Doris - Advanced Training Update

We’re delighted to share another update on Doris as she progresses into the advanced stage of her guide dog training. Under the guidance of her new trainer, Laura, Doris is continuing to build her confidence and develop the final skills she’ll need for her future role.

Doris has settled in brilliantly and is thriving with her training. She particularly enjoys playtime and tug toys, which have helped strengthen the bond with her trainer. She’s also continuing to travel confidently on buses and trains and has made great progress with her focus and recall.

A major focus at the moment is obstacle avoidance — an essential skill for keeping future guide dog owners safe. Doris is practising how to safely guide around obstacles such as bins and parked cars while helping her handler navigate kerbs and busy pavements.

Over the coming weeks, Doris will begin working in busier city environments to further build her confidence and experience. She’s an intelligent and sweet-natured dog, and we’re incredibly proud to support her journey.
